WHEN A STRANGER WALKS BY, I LOOK AT MY PHONE

I never could keep you safe 
(I tried, I tried), 
and I betrayed our history again
today when I didn’t stop 
to look twice;
I didn’t want to know if they were you, 
and yet now I do, 
enough to write this down.
